Amenity Values

Amenity values in New Zealand is a hard item to define. What one person believes makes the environment nice (has nice amenity) another person may not agree with. The Resource Management Act 1991 has given a definition to amenity values, this being:

Amenity values means those natural or physical qualities and characteristics of an area that contribute to people's appreciation of its pleasantness, aesthetic coherence, and cultural and recreational attributes.

The problem with this definition is that the term is very subjective and becomes hazy around the sides. The term is extensively tested and constantly being redefined by the environment court and the Ministry for the Environment.
